It was a kind of double whammy that Saxony felt on Wednesday. First the exploratory talks in the Free State failed, then the traffic light in the federal government broke down. Now there are urgent appeals.

Following the failure of a governing coalition in Saxony and the end of the traffic light system at federal level, fundamental demands on politicians are increasing. "We appeal to the political leaders: Put aside egoism and party tactics. Reflect on your responsibility for the common good," explained Dietrich Bauer, head of Diakonie in Saxony. Courageous compromises and far-reaching reforms are essential in order to secure social peace and strengthen the country in the long term.

According to Bauer, the failure of the exploratory talks in Saxony and the traffic light coalition at federal level shows: "The political rifts are deep. But without agreement, without a strong common basis, we will not be able to solve the pressing social and societal challenges and make our country fit for the future." It is expected that all political forces are aware of their responsibility and pull together. "This is the only way to achieve the necessary changes and a fair future for all."
