The movie nights on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden are a cult event. In summer, current films and classics are shown on a giant screen and stage, and bands and soloists perform against a baroque backdrop - very close to the Carola Bridge.

The Dresden Film Nights on the banks of the Elbe will probably not have to move to another location this summer due to the partial collapse of the Carola Bridge. Building Mayor Stephan Kühn (Greens) assumes that they can once again take place on the Königsufer below the Ministry of Finance. "We can manage that together," he assured. As part of the dismantling of the still standing remains of the partially collapsed Elbe crossing, which will begin in June, it is planned that the river channel will be clear again by the summer and the riverside road on the Old Town side by the end of the year. "The issue of the demolition of the Carola Bridge will be resolved in 2025."

Since the collapse of one of the three bridge sections on 11 September 2024, the organizers have feared for the popular cultural event on the riverbank and in front of the famous baroque backdrop of Dresden's Old Town. In addition to film screenings, it also offers concerts in the summer months. Every year, pop singer Roland Kaiser celebrates "Kaisermania" on several evenings, always sold out and with hundreds of onlookers on the Elbe meadows around the Filmnächte site - and previously also on the Carola Bridge.
