Dresden will host the Federal Garden Show in 2033 and plans to develop piles of rubble as places of remembrance.

Dresden will host the Federal Horticultural Show in 2033. Following the city council's approval of the major project, an agreement has now been concluded with the German Federal Garden Show Society (DBG), the city administration announced on Thursday evening. This means that the Saxon state capital has effectively been awarded the contract.

The Dresden Buga is intended to have an impact on the region and the whole of Saxony, explained Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert. DBG Managing Director Achim Schloemer pointed out that a Buga is more than just a six-month event. It would initiate urban development processes and bring greenery to the cities.

According to the city, the main motif of the Dresden Buga will be piles and heaps of rubble that were created after the destruction in February 1945 and spread across the entire city. These mounds are to be developed as places of remembrance and linked together by green corridors.
