The SPD's top candidate complains of populism among four parties during the election campaign - and also earns criticism from the Free Voters.

The Free Voters reject the accusations of populism made against the party by SPD top candidate and Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping. "After being voted out of office on September 1, Ms. Köpping will once again understand what the task of the opposition is. And that is to name the problems in the country," said the lead candidate of the Free Voters, Matthias Berger.

Earlier, Köpping had criticized the Free Voters, the AfD, the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) and the far-right Free Saxons for putting forward theses during the election campaign that were not backed up by anything. The Free Voters would also only ever say "everything is crap" and badmouth the country.

"Ms. Köpping and her SPD have probably missed our proposed solutions or don't seem to care," Berger continued. He referred, for example, to the Free Voters' proposal for a dual teaching degree.

A new state parliament will be elected in Saxony on September 1. Polls recently put the Free Voters at under five percent and they could therefore miss out on a place in the state parliament.
