The Green parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament continues to be led by Franziska Schubert. The 42-year-old was re-elected chairwoman at the constituent meeting of the parliamentary group with six out of seven votes and one abstention, as the group announced. Valentin Lippmann remains Parliamentary Secretary and Deputy Chairman. Christin Melcher was re-elected as a further deputy (both unanimously).
Schubert thanked her parliamentary group for their trust, according to the statement. "Our Green Party team in the Saxon state parliament has become smaller, and we are facing up to this challenge," said Schubert according to the press release. She announced "proper opposition work". They want to clearly show that it makes a difference whether the Greens are involved in decision-making.
According to the information provided, the members of the board were appointed individually and by secret ballot, initially for one year. Lippmann has been Parliamentary Secretary of his parliamentary group since 2014, while Schubert and Melcher have held their positions since 2020.
In the state parliamentary elections just over two weeks ago, the Greens received 5.1% of the vote and two direct mandates from Leipzig and Dresden. In the new legislative period, they are represented by seven MPs in the state parliament, compared to twelve previously.
