Green Party board to run again - resignation announced

In view of the upcoming parliamentary election campaign, the current executive committee of the Saxon Greens will initially seek re-election and step down in the first half of 2025. The aim is to rely on experience and well-established structures during the election campaign, the party announced. According to the party law, the executive committee must be re-elected this calendar year; an extension of the executive committee period until after the federal elections is not possible.

"There are just under three months to go until the federal elections and we have a lot of work ahead of us," said the two chairpersons Marie Müser and Christin Furtenbacher according to the press release. The decision to contest the elections with this state executive committee was therefore a pragmatic one. "We are also paving the way to be able to hand over the office to a new state executive committee under suitable conditions at a later state assembly."

Helbig postpones candidacy

Martin Helbig, currently spokesperson for diversity policy on the state executive committee, wants to run for state chairman in next year's election. He had previously announced his candidacy for this year. According to the press release, he said that his own plans had to be put on the back burner for the greater good. "It is now important to send a clear signal of responsibility and reason for our state association and to relieve our members as much as possible in these challenging times."

At the party conference on 7 December in Chemnitz, the election of the state executive committee of the Greens in Saxony will take place. One week later, the party will meet again to determine the state list for the federal election, which is expected to take place on February 23.
