Saxon SPD chairman Henning Homann will also lead the Social Democrats' parliamentary group in the state parliament in future. The 45-year-old was elected as the successor to Dirk Panter, who took over the Ministry of Economics in the black-red minority government. Homann received 90 percent of the votes, as the parliamentary group announced. The SPD has ten members of parliament.
Laura Stellbrink remains the first deputy and parliamentary secretary. She has been in office since September 2024 and was elected unanimously. The Executive Board is completed by two further deputies. Juliane Pfeil and Gerald Eisenblätter also received all the votes. Due to the defusing of the World War II bomb on the Carola Bridge, the election could not take place in the state parliament. The SPD switched to rooms at the Dresden Chamber of Crafts.
Homann then described his party as the "protective power of democracy and social cohesion". He also emphasized: "Our task is to provide stability and security in difficult times. We want to lead the minority government in Saxony to success. This is only possible with a clear plan and mutual respect." Saxony needs more trust in its own strength and the confidence to develop things for the better.
