The Regional Monitoring Committee for the Central German Mining District has endorsed six structural change projects in the Leipzig region, for which applications for 36.4 million euros are to be submitted to the federal government.

Bike paths and industrial estates in the Leipzig region are to be supported with coal funds. On Wednesday, the Regional Monitoring Committee for the Central German coalfield approved a total of six structural change projects, for which 36.4 million euros are to be applied for from the federal government.

In addition to the cycle paths in Pegau and between Böhlen and Zwenkau, these include the development of two industrial estates in Zwenkau and at the site of the former Thierbach power plant. In addition, a nursery is to be built in Kitzscher and a vacant municipal administration building in Wiedemar is to be converted into a service center.

The Regional Monitoring Committee is a body that assesses municipal projects that are hoping to receive coal funding. If the committee gives the green light, the projects are submitted to the Free State of Saxony and the federal government for a final decision. So far, 38 proposals from the municipalities have been approved, for which almost 325 million euros are to come from the federal government.
