SPD proposes Pallas as Vice-President of the state parliament

The SPD parliamentary group wants a fourth Vice-President in the Saxon state parliament and is proposing its MP Albrecht Pallas. In doing so, the Social Democrats have ignored criticism from other parliamentary groups. After all, the office costs the taxpayer a lot of money. Each deputy is not only entitled to one and a half times a normal MP's salary. There is also a monthly expense allowance, a personal company car with driver and a secretary. Representatives of the AfD, the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance, the Greens and the Left had spoken out against this.

"It simply costs an awful lot more money," argued AfD parliamentary group leader Jörg Urban on Wednesday. Previously, the state parliament had managed with one president and two vice presidents. That was enough to chair the plenary sessions and attend official meetings. There was no work for a fourth vice president. "Sächsische.de" had previously reported on the Pallas appointment.

Meanwhile, the SPD parliamentary group announced another personnel decision. Laura Stellbrink was elected Parliamentary Secretary and first deputy parliamentary group leader. The Social Democrats had already confirmed their previous parliamentary group leader Dirk Panter in office at the beginning of September.

The new state parliament will convene for its constituent session next Tuesday. The new state parliament president and his deputies will also be elected then. As the strongest party following the state parliamentary elections on September 1, the CDU has nominated its Secretary General Alexander Dierks and Ines Saborowski as his deputy. The SPD signaled its approval of these two nominations. The current Vice President André Wendt is likely to enter the race for the AfD. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) is proposing party leader Jörg Scheibe.
