The trade union Verdi has called for a warning strike this Friday in the Chemnitz-Erzgebirge-Mittelsachsen region - including at Chemnitz University of Technology. The reason for this is the so far unsuccessful wage negotiations for the public sector of the federal states, the union announced on Thursday. "Employers are turning a blind eye to the massive staff shortage in the public service of the federal states, the stressful situation of employees and the inadequate pay," criticized Verdi national chairman Frank Werneke. The warning strikes would therefore be massively extended before the next round of negotiations.

According to Verdi, the second round of collective bargaining for the public service of the federal states had also remained without result. The unions are demanding 10.5 percent more income, but at least 500 euros more. Junior staff are to receive 200 euros more - and be taken on for an indefinite period. The collective agreement is to run for 12 months.

In addition to the employees of Chemnitz University of Technology, the employees of the state directorate, the tax offices and several state offices have also been called to take part in the all-day warning strike. According to Verdi, a demonstration through Chemnitz city center is also planned for Friday morning.
