The supply of pharmacies in Saxony is better than the national average. At the end of 2023, 4,509 people were supplied by a pharmacy in the Free State - in Germany, the average was 4,819 people, according to figures from the Federal Statistical Office.
In Saarland, there were only 3,781 people per pharmacy. This is the lowest figure of all the federal states. Saarland is followed by Saxony-Anhalt with 3,894 and Thuringia with 4,288 people per pharmacy. At the other end are the city states of Bremen (5,321), Berlin (5,290) and Hamburg (5,177).
Fewer pharmacies make more sales
The supply of pharmacies is getting worse nationwide. Ten years ago, according to the Federal Statistical Office, an average of 3,909 inhabitants were supplied by one pharmacy.
The turnover of pharmacies, on the other hand, increased by more than a third in real terms between 2013 and 2023. Most recently, however, sales have declined: in 2023, pharmacies in Germany will generate three percent less turnover than in the previous year.
