The food and veterinary office of the district of Leipzig has lifted the surveillance zone to combat avian influenza in Markranstädt. According to the district office in Borna, the disease has been successfully contained in neighboring areas in Saxony-Anhalt. Therefore, the protective measures in Markranstädt could now be lifted on October 22. The order had been in place since mid-September and included, among other things, a strict stall requirement and a ban on poultry markets.
The Friedrich Löffler Institute continues to classify the risk of transmission of avian influenza as high. The responsible office is therefore calling for caution among bird keepers. The flu is not transmissible to humans.
