At the third attempt, Energie Cottbus achieved their first victory since returning to the 3rd division. However, the spectators had to wait a very long time for the decisive goal.

FC Energie Cottbus celebrate their first win in the 3rd Football League thanks to a celebrated goal in stoppage time. The Lusatians prevailed 2:1 (1:0) against Alemannia Aachen in a clash of promoted teams. Henry Rorig had given Energie Cottbus the lead in the 19th minute. In front of 9,218 spectators in the Leag Energie Stadium, Anton Heinz scored to make it 1-1 for Aachen (52). Axel Borgmann scored the winner in the 95th minute.

In midsummer temperatures, the spectators saw a varied duel. Aachen's play was pleasing, but Energie initially had the better chances in the first half. After the goal by Rorig, who scored with a great shot from distance, Timmy Thiele could have extended the lead in the 39th minute. Shortly before the break, Kevin Goden hit the post for Aachen.

The visitors stepped up the pace after the break and equalized. Both teams could have won the game in the ensuing period. Cottbus were the more active team in the final phase and were rewarded with a goal from Borgmann. It was only the captain's second brief appearance since suffering a cruciate ligament rupture in October 2023.

On Thursday, Energie Cottbus unveiled another new signing in Lucas Copado. The 20-year-old center forward joins on loan from Austrian first division club Linzer ASK. Copado - whose father Francisco used to play in the Bundesliga - was trained at Bayern Munich. He made his first appearance for Energie in the 2nd half.
