The RB Leipzig women's footballers have picked up an important point in the Bundesliga relegation battle. However, the Saxons squandered a two-goal lead after half-time in the 4:4 (4:2) draw at SGS Essen on Friday. Mimmi Larsson (14th minute), Vanessa Fudalla (26th/28th) and Frederike Kempe (39th) scored for the visitors. The goals for Essen were scored by Laureta Elmazi (3rd), Natasha Kowalski (25th, penalty/51st) and Annalena Rieke (59th).
The hosts from Essen were much more aggressive after the break and therefore deserved to equalize. A complete turnaround even seemed possible, but it remained an important draw for RB. Leipzig are now tenth, two points ahead of the first relegation place, which is occupied by fellow promoted side 1. FC Nürnberg. The team from Franconia will host Bayer Leverkusen on Monday.
