German champions SC Magdeburg picked up an important two points in the Champions League. They won 32:31 (17:17) against Danish champions Aalborg. Magdeburg's best scorers were Felix Claar and Michael Damgaard with eight goals each. Magdeburg is still in fifth place in Group B, which is enough to advance.
Both teams started nervously, missing a few shots, with Magdeburg having a slight advantage. Magdeburg's Gisli Kristjansson injured his foot after four minutes and was unable to continue.
No team can pull away
In addition, SCM was without its skilled right back. Albin Lagergren was only on the bench, with defensive specialist Antonio Serradilla taking over the position. Magdeburg built up a three-goal lead, which Aalborg equalized at the break.
In the second half, there was not much to separate the two teams at first either. Magdeburg had problems getting into the flow of the game in attack and Aalborg exploited that to give the visitors their second lead of the evening (22:23/37').
The home side also improvised defensively, with both left wingers on court at the same time. SCM led by two goals again with six-and-a-half minutes remaining, but was not able to decide the game. Aalborg came within one goal, but Sergey Hernandez saved the visitors' last attempt.
