The Bundesliga handball club Thüringer HC has ended the calendar year with a win. The team of Head Coach Herbert Müller prevailed 29:26 (16:16) at newly promoted Frisch Auf Göppingen to celebrate its fourth league win in succession. Natsuki Aizawa and Johanna Reichert were THC's best scorers in front of 3,005 spectators with five goals apiece and the club now sits in third place with 14:4 points.
The club from Thuringia got off to the better start and quickly took a 3:0 lead (4th minute). Whereas they reliably found good solutions in attack, they were far too passive in defense, which Göppingen consistently punished. As a result, an open exchange of blows developed up to 11:11 in the 17th minute. As a result, the shooting percentages dropped somewhat on both sides. The game remained completely open up to the break.
The THC began the second half with three goals in succession, but the home side was unimpressed and quickly equalized to make it 19:19 in the 38th minute. From then on, the Thuringians improved considerably in defense and forced a number of turnovers. Nevertheless, they were not able to pull away at first because they repeatedly failed to beat Göppingen's strong goalkeeper Celina Meißner. As a result, the underdogs kept within touching distance until 23:25 (54'), before Reichert, who had been rather inconspicuous up to that point, scored twice to make it 27:23 (57') and put the visitors ahead.
