Field hamsters have been released into the wild as part of a species conservation project and offspring have now been spotted for the first time.
Leipzig Zoo plans to release 70 field hamsters into the wild for the first time in May in order to establish a new Saxon field hamster population. The project is part of a conservation strategy for the endangered animals.
