Saxony wants to make better use of scientific potential

Saxony wants to better showcase its scientific potential. All considerations, measures and investments are designed to "transform the Free State from today's hidden champion into a European beacon of science with appeal far beyond its borders", said Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow (CDU) in the state parliament on Wednesday. This would make Saxony even more attractive for specialists and top scientists.

Gemkow presented key measures for the further development of Saxony as a location for research and science in a specialist government statement. This requires future-proof structures. One building block is the expanded structure of the higher education system. In addition to universities, colleges and art colleges, the system will in future be based on another strong pillar - the Saxony Cooperative State University. With the corresponding transformation of the vocational academy, Saxony is responding to the need for skilled workers.

According to the minister, Saxony wants to enable flexible learning paths and strengthen learning success with digitalization in studies and teaching. Universities should act as catalysts for the regional economy. Incentives and structures must be created to increase the exchange between research and practice. It is also important to translate research results into marketable products and services more quickly. There is also a focus on the further development of non-university research.
