Saxon Culture Minister Barbara Klepsch (CDU) has encouraged initiatives to submit proposals for intangible cultural heritage. The German Unesco Commission and the Conference of Culture Ministers have now launched the new application round, the Ministry of Culture announced. Proposals can be submitted until the end of October 31, 2025.
In order to be included in the list, applications must meet certain criteria. In Saxony, the Institute for Saxon History and Folklore advises on this matter.
The intangible cultural heritage includes cultural traditions in all their facets - from customs and festivals to historically evolved craft techniques to music and dance forms - including hip-hop culture and poetry slam. The nationwide directory currently comprises 168 entries. Saxony has its own state list with 14 entries - including cultural assets such as the customs and festivals of the Lusatian Sorbs, the idea of cooperatives and mountaineering.
