The Karl Wilhelm Fricke Prize is awarded annually for outstanding commitment to freedom, democracy and civil courage. Proposals can now be submitted for 2025.

Next year, the Karl Wilhelm Fricke Prize will once again honor outstanding achievements in coming to terms with dictatorships and commitment to democratic rights. Proposals can be submitted until February 1, 2025, as announced by the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship. The main prize is endowed with 20,000 euros. The foundation also awards a special prize and a prize for young talent.

Personalities as well as projects or institutions that have "rendered outstanding services to the promotion of democratic culture through their commitment" can be nominated. A jury will then consider the nominations. The award winners will be honored next year at an event in Berlin. In 2024, the Lern- und Gedenkort Kaßberg-Gefängnis e.V. received the main prize. It honored the many years of commitment of the volunteers.

The Federal Foundation has been awarding the Karl Wilhelm Fricke Prize annually since 2017 to honor outstanding commitment to freedom, democracy and civil courage. Previous winners include the human rights organization Memorial International, the GDR civil rights activist Freya Klier and the initiative group Geschlossener Jugendwerkhof Torgau.
