The psychologist and age researcher Ursula Staudinger has been re-elected as Rector of the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD). As the university announced, she received the majority of votes from the members of the Extended Senate in the very first ballot. She thus clearly prevailed over her rival André Thess.
Staudinger expressed her gratitude for the vote and the trust: "I am very pleased that we will continue together on the path we have taken towards a globally oriented and regionally anchored university of excellence for the 21st century."
The current and future Rector emphasized that the TUD, as a broad-based technical university, will continue to make a significant contribution to solving global challenges in research, teaching and transfer. - These include issues such as the climate crisis, scarcity of resources, the energy crisis and demographic change. The TUD should continue to occupy top positions both nationally and internationally.
Saxony's Science Minister Sebastian Gemkow (CDU) congratulated Staudinger on her re-election. "This testifies to the high reputation that the Rector has earned during her first five-year term at the helm of the only university of excellence in Eastern Germany to date." TU Dresden has developed excellently in many areas under her leadership.
