Expansion of the "Purple Path" art and sculpture trail to include Gregor Gaida's "Polygonal Horse II"

The "Purple Path" art and sculpture trail in the Chemnitz region has been expanded to include a new work. Since Saturday, the sculpture "Polygonal Horse II" by Gregor Gaida has been part of it, as the organizers of the Capital of Culture 2025 announced. The "Purple Path" is one of the five main projects of the Capital of Culture program. Chemnitz will be the European Capital of Culture next year together with Nova Gorica in Slovenia.

The "Purple Path" sculpture trail is intended to be an exhibition of contemporary art in public spaces. It consists of works by national and international artists and connects 38 municipalities in the region with the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz.

According to the organizers, Gregor Gaida's "Polygonal Horse II" in Gahlenz addresses the symbiosis of man and horse, which also played an important role in mining. The sculpture is also an ironic break with the convention of the traditional equestrian monument. Gaida was born in Poland in 1975 and lives in Bremen.

His work is the eighth on the "Purple Path". Around 20 more works of art are to be installed this year. The open-air exhibition will open from April 11 to 13, 2025.
