Cruise ship in front of the Kaisertrutz: Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater shows "Anything Goes"; Deutsch-Sorbisches Volkstheater plays "Spuk unterm Riesenrad".

Cruise ship in front of the Kaisertrutz: the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater is transforming the central square at the former cannon bastion in Görlitz into a stage for this year's open-air production. This Saturday sees the premiere of Cole Porter's hit musical "Anything Goes". The theater promises "a crazy show full of humor, rousing dance and step numbers as well as great music". The Broadway play, in which a motley crew embarks on a journey from New York to London, will be performed until July 7.

In the past, the summer theater in Görlitz has always been performed in other locations, such as the old freight station in 2023. The Deutsch-Sorbisches Volkstheater in Bautzen, on the other hand, has a traditional location for its annual open-air productions. This year, the play "Spuk unterm Riesenrad - Jetzt ist Bautzen dran" will be staged in the courtyard of Ortenburg Castle. Intendant Lutz Hillmann will stage his own free adaptation of the book by C. U. Wiesner. According to the theater, many local references should be expected in the story, in which the witch, giant and Rumpelstiltskin break out of the ghost train. The premiere is on June 6.
