The match against PSG revealed some of Leipzig's weaknesses. Some of RB's automatisms are still not working.

RB Leipzig missed out on a prestigious win in the last test before the start of the new soccer season. They drew 1:1 (1:0) against the star ensemble of Paris Saint-Germain. Lois Openda (13th minute) had given the hosts the early lead. Goncalo Ramos (70') scored the equalizer. The Saxons start the new season next Saturday with the DFB Cup match at Rot-Weiss Essen.

RB coach Marco Rose included Xavi Simons in the starting eleven, a player who had only been loaned back to Leipzig on a season-long loan from PSG on Monday. German international David Raum, who only returned to training this week, also received the coach's vote of confidence. RB were without the injured Christoph Baumgartner, Xaver Schlager, new signing Assan Quedraogo and El Chadaille Bitshiabu as well as Olympic silver medalist Castello Lukeba. PSG were without 14 players from their squad. Instead, Willian Pacho, who had moved to Paris from Eintracht Frankfurt, was on the pitch from the start.

Summer soccer in the first half

Both teams played more summer soccer in the first half. The visitors were still the more active team. Nevertheless, the hosts took the lead when PSG made a mistake from the Saxons' first corner kick and Openda finished uncompromisingly.

The visitors then pressed for an equalizer, but former Frankfurt player Randal Kolo Muani (29, 33) missed twice from promising positions. RB were only dangerous in front of goal once more through Simons (34), but PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma cleared with a foot save.

Little offensive action from Leipzig

After the break, RB substitute Maarten Vandevoordt stood out in goal. He made a strong save to keep out a shot from Kang-in Lee (53'). Nuno Mendes (66) also narrowly missed the equalizer, which Ramos then deservedly scored from 16 metres. RB came up with very little offensively in the second period - also due to numerous changes.
