ThSV Eisenach celebrates its first home win of the season. The handball Bundesliga club won 30:22 (13:13) against HSG Wetzlar in the Werner-Aßmann-Halle at home. New international Marko Grgic was the best scorer in front of 2,728 spectators. He scored eight times. It was the Wartburg club's second win in its sixth game.
The first half was extremely evenly poised. Eisenach led by two goals from time to time, but the visitors from Wetzlar never lost touch. After Eisenach's offense had major problems in its last game against Hannover-Burgdorf, all of its attacking players scored reliably in the first half. Wetzlar managed to tie the scores at 13:13 before the break.
The second half also remained evenly poised at first. Even though Eisenach keeper Matija Spikic had a far better save percentage in the 40th minute (around 42 percent), the club from Wartburg was not able to get away with it. Two goals after a timeout and the opposing side losing possession enabled the club from Thuringia to open up a slight gap (22:18).
In that phase, HSG simply did not score often enough and the HSG goalkeepers did not save enough shots despite being substituted. In the final five minutes, nothing seemed to work, one ball loss followed the next and the final score was a clear 30:22.
