Dani Olmo will remain an RB Leipzig player for the time being. On Sunday night, an exit clause for a rumored €60 million transfer fee for the Spanish European champion expired unused. Several media outlets are unanimous in their reports. Although there is great interest in the brilliant 26-year-old, with Manchester City, Atletico Madrid, FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich recently being linked with Olmo, no one was initially willing to pay the fixed price. From now on, this is once again a matter for negotiation, but a transfer remains very likely. There has been no reaction from RB Leipzig.
It is known that Olmo wants to take a new career step after four and a half years at RB Leipzig. And the Spaniard, who was top scorer at the European Championships with three goals and two assists, would also like to leave the club. Why an agreement has not yet been reached is speculative.
Olmo's overall package probably too expensive
It could well be that the financially strong clubs were not put off by the €60 million, but by the overall package. This could reach the 100 million euro mark if various additional factors such as a double-digit million salary, consultancy fees or signing bonus are added. Olmo is also considered to be injury-prone, rarely appearing on the pitch last season due to various injuries.
However, the high-class player, who trained as a youth player at FC Barcelona and moved to Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb for €29 million in January 2020, is a difference-maker, as he impressively demonstrated in the decisive knockout phase of the European Championship. RB coach Marco Rosse would like to keep him in his team, but is also a realist. On Friday evening, he said: "I will sleep peacefully today because we have a good team and will have a good team again. We have ideas on how we might compensate for things. If the day is over tomorrow and nothing has happened, then the coach will be happy."
