The expected departure of Kylian Mbappé to Paris Saint-Germain reduces Leipzig's chances of keeping Xavi Simons. "For us, this is rather negative for the time being," said Leipzig's sporting director Rouven Schröder after the 2-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The procedure has been clearly discussed with the French soccer champions: "He will return to Paris at the end of the season and we will only have the opportunity to make further enquiries in the summer," said Schröder. PSG brought Xavi back from PSV Eindhoven last summer for six million euros thanks to a buy-back clause and then loaned him out to Leipzig.
The German cup winners do not have an option to buy the on-loan attacker. In Leipzig, the 20-year-old scored his sixth goal of the season to give his side their fifth 1-0 lead in the Bundesliga. Across all competitions, the lively attacking player has scored eight goals in 31 games and recorded nine assists.
