To deal with the coronavirus pandemic, the CDU and SPD parliamentary groups have jointly submitted a motion to the Saxon state parliament to set up a commission of inquiry. "The aim is to develop a basis for future pandemic crisis management in the Free State of Saxony", the document states.
The commission of inquiry, a parliamentary body comprising members of parliament and external experts, should also deal with fundamental issues such as compulsory masks or vaccination, how to deal with vaccine damage or the question of amnesties.
AfD and BSW request parliamentary committees of inquiry
AfD and BSW had submitted requests for parliamentary committees of inquiry to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. Committees of inquiry are made up of members of the state parliament and are intended to investigate possible abuses in politics and administration or possible misconduct by politicians. The state parliament will decide on this in a special session on Friday.
CDU parliamentary group deputy: Enquete commission the better means
According to the SPD parliamentary group, the CDU and SPD motion will not be voted on until later so that the parliamentary groups have enough time to evaluate it. Deputy CDU parliamentary group leader Sören Voigt believes that setting up a commission of inquiry for a comprehensive analysis is the better option. "This would allow experts to be heard and the scientific community and the public to be involved." With its motion for a committee of inquiry, the AfD is primarily aiming to dramatize and scandalize.
