Increase in applications for medical study places above the Saxon rural doctor quota. 130 applications received for 40 study places.

The number of applicants interested in studying medicine via Saxony's rural doctor quota has continued to rise. The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that 130 applications had been received for 40 study places. In the two previous years, there were 119 and 67 applications respectively. The decisive factor for selection is not the applicant's A-level grades, but their aptitude and motivation.

The Free State is attempting to secure medical care in rural areas with the rural doctor quota. The prospective doctors undertake to work as GPs away from large cities for at least ten years after completing their training. The next round of applications will begin in January 2025.
