The first products were already rolling off the production line in the first quarter of 2023. On Friday, Beiersdorf's new production facility for cosmetic products in the north of Leipzig was officially opened. Minister President Michael Kretschmer was also on site.

Hamburg-based Dax company Beiersdorf has officially opened its new production center in Leipzig. "Saxony is a good place for investment and entrepreneurial commitment," said Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) at the opening ceremony in Leipzig on Friday. He said he was pleased that Beiersdorf's largest single investment to date in a location in the Free State was being realized. "In fact, the new and state-of-the-art manufacturing plant is significant for the entire region and the people living here." The plant creates many new jobs and is a "clear commitment to Saxony as a business location."

After a construction period of about two years, Beiersdorf had started its cosmetics production at the Leipzig plant in early May. Currently, three lines are in operation, two more are to follow soon. Up to 450 million cosmetic products are then expected to roll off the production line each year - in particular deodorants, hair sprays and shaving foams for the entire European market and for export. With an investment of almost 300 million euros, the Leipzig plant is the largest investment in a single location in Beiersdorf's history.

"Here in Germany, we are creating the capacity for long-term, sustainable growth of our brands in Europe," said CEO Vincent Warnery. Around 200 people currently work in Leipzig. In return, Beiersdorf is closing its Waldheim site, where the Florena brand, rich in tradition and widely used in the GDR, originated. A significant number of the employees had already transferred from Waldheim in Central Saxony to Leipzig. Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung (SPD) also attended the opening event.
