In view of the problems facing the German solar industry, the Federal Ministry of Economics believes that the framework conditions for the sector in Germany and Europe must be improved. On Friday, the ministry referred to the EU's so-called Net Zero Industry Act, which is intended to strengthen the solar and wind power sectors, for example. Specifically, it is about tenders for renewable energies. Criteria such as resilience and sustainability would have to be rewarded in 30 percent of all tenders.
The solar company Meyer Burger had announced that it was preparing to close its plant in Freiberg, Saxony. The company accuses Chinese companies of offering modules at dumping prices and is preparing production in the USA.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs went on to explain that the German government had agreed in principle to provide an export credit guarantee for the production of machinery in connection with the establishment of solar module production in the USA. This will enable the continued operation of the Meyer Burger site in Hohenstein-Ernstthal in Saxony. Machines are manufactured there that are also intended for export.
