The trial of strength between the train drivers' union GDL and Chemnitz City-Bahn continues. At short notice, the GDL has announced that it will be striking the lines from noon on Tuesday until 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning, the railroad company announced. As a result, commuters and schoolchildren will not be able to get home as usual. Attempts will be made to set up emergency bus services, it said. He had made proposals to reduce working hours and increase wages, explained Managing Director Friedbert Straube. "The GDL rejected everything. I hope the GDL finds its way back to proportionality."
The union is fighting for the 35-hour week and, according to its own information, has already secured agreements in 47 companies. City-Bahn, which operates six lines in the Chemnitz region, is one of the last rail companies in Germany to oppose this. The dispute has escalated in recent days. The GDL has already called on its members to strike several times. In addition, the walkouts are no longer announced well in advance. GDL boss Claus Weselsky accused Straube of playing an "unclean and perfidious game with the fear of losing one's job". The City-Bahn employees were not "second-class rail workers". He called for a reasonable offer to clear the way for negotiations.
