While the number of wind turbines is climbing nationwide, expansion in the Free State is falling by the wayside. However, permits for new wind turbines are increasing.

The number of wind turbines in Saxony declined in the first three quarters of this year. This is according to preliminary figures from the Fachagentur Windenergie an Land, which were made available to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur. From January to the end of September, four new wind turbines were commissioned. In the same period, 13 turbines were decommissioned. However, the number of permits for new wind turbines has increased.

"While more than 50 percent more wind energy capacity was connected to the grid nationwide compared to the three quarters of last year, it was almost 40 percent less in Saxony," explained speaker Jürgen Quentin. The balance of approvals was more positive. According to the agency, 24 wind turbines were approved in Saxony, twice as many as in the same period last year. Nevertheless one lies thereby on the average under comparably large Lands of the Federal Republic such as Hessen or Rhineland-Palatinate.

Germany far there is with the development of the wind energy a clear upswing, as the specialized agency communicated. 518 new wind turbines went into operation from January to the end of September. This corresponds to a performance increase of over 50 percent compared to the same period last year. The front-runners were the German states of Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia, it said.
