Both of Dresden's mountain railroads are listed buildings and require special care. After the spring inspection, the suspension railroad is now back in action.

The Dresden suspension railroad is back in operation following a successful inspection. From 10 a.m. on Saturday, the train will once again connect the Loschwitz district with the heights of Oberloschwitz. It will initially operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the start of the summer timetable on March 28 from 9.30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The drive motor will be replaced during the spring overhaul. According to Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe, this went without complications. In regular operation, the electric hoisting machine produces up to 80 kilowatts and moves the cable from which the two carriages are suspended. The previous motor was replaced by an equivalent reserve motor.

Mountain railroads are a popular tourist attraction

After the suspension railroad, the neighboring funicular railroad will now be overhauled from next Monday. The inspection is due to be completed on April 4. Both funiculars are a popular tourist attraction, but are also used by locals.

The suspension railroad runs over a route length of around 274 meters and overcomes a height difference of 84 meters. The funicular, on the other hand, covers a height difference of 95 meters over a length of around 550 meters.

The suspension railroad on the Elbe slope went into operation in 1991 - six years after the funicular. The name suspension railroad is somewhat misleading. The two car bodies roll on a special profiled girder and oscillate, so to speak.
