Volkswagen is curbing production of electric cars at its Zwickau and Dresden sites for two weeks. In Zwickau, a production line will be shut down during the fall vacations, a spokesman told Deutsche Presse-Agentur. The reason given for the move is weakening demand. Production of the ID.4, ID.5, Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron models will continue in three-shift operation, it said. Also in the Transparent Factory in Dresden, the production of the ID.3 will rest for two weeks.

While in Dresden from October 16 the production in regular single-shift operation is resumed, the further procedure in Zwickau is beyond that unclear. For the further driving there there are discussions with the works council, it was said. How exactly the whole thing affects unit numbers and how many employees are affected, the company would not comment on Wednesday.
