Saxony's high-tech sector grew strongly in 2023

The number of employees in Saxony's high-tech sector grew strongly last year. The number of employees in the microelectronics and ICT sector increased by 6.4 percent to 81,000, announced Frank Bösenberg, Managing Director of the Silicon Saxony industry network, on Tuesday. "We are sticking to our forecast that more than 100,000 people will be working in demanding jobs in Silicon Saxony in 2030. With last year's growth, we are still clearly heading in this direction."

According to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Free State is Europe's largest microelectronics location with the "Silicon Saxony" network. Every third chip produced in the EU comes from Saxony. Around 3,650 companies, including Infineon and Globalfoundries, are active in the region. By 2030, 20,000 new jobs are expected to be created, including at the Taiwanese semiconductor group TSMC, which plans to produce in the state capital from 2027.
