The Saxon skilled crafts sector fears a prolonged crisis in the German economy and is calling on the federal and state governments to take measures to stabilize the situation. "The focus must be on strengthening the economy," states a resolution published on Monday by the Saxon Crafts Association. "Without a strong economy, the socio-political goals cannot be achieved." This would also require a strategic prioritization.
The resolution calls for a reduction in energy prices, which are too high compared to the rest of Europe, a reduction in bureaucracy and a fundamental readjustment of education policy. The federal and state governments must "develop a strategy adapted to the federal system in order to make our country competitive and attractive again in the field of education". The latest Pisa study had shown that Germany had lost its leading role in education. It is also necessary to return to a legally compliant federal budget in accordance with the recent ruling of the Federal Constitutional Court.
At state level, the planned amendment to the Saxon Public Procurement Act has been met with criticism from the guild and trade associations organized in the Crafts Day. Complicating the public procurement process for companies and the administration with new bureaucratic requirements is the wrong political response to the current construction crisis.
According to its own information, the Saxon Crafts Association represents more than 55,000 companies with around 300,000 employees.
