Taiwan and Saxony launch joint talent exchange program

Just four months after the corresponding agreement between Saxony and the Taiwanese chip company TSMC, the joint exchange program for talented young people is set to begin. The first young people will go to Taipei and Taichung next Monday to study, as the Ministry of Science in Dresden announced on Tuesday. The studies at the National Taiwan University are combined with a practical part at the Newcomer Training Center & Fab at TSMC.

The "Semiconductor Talent Incubation Program" will support future specialists for the semiconductor industry. Each year, up to 100 young people from Germany will spend six months in the island state to complete a semiconductor curriculum at the host universities as well as two months of practical training in TSMC's production facilities.

In August 2023, TSMC announced its intention to build a semiconductor plant in Dresden. The investment sum is around ten billion euros. The plant is to be built together with Bosch, Infineon and NXP and will focus on the production of chips for the automotive industry. TSMC had previously expressed concerns about a shortage of skilled workers in Germany.
