Four halls of residence for vocational school students and trainees in Leipzig and Zittau will receive funding totaling 16.38 million euros. The investments will create 191 new places and modernize 176, as announced by the Ministry of Culture. "We are thus improving the accommodation situation for trainees, especially in the urban centers this year," said Wilfried Kühner, Head of the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs.
In Leipzig, the funds will go to two new construction projects that will be able to accommodate 135 (funding amount: around 8 million euros) and 28 vocational school students and trainees (around 3.7 million euros) respectively. Another hall of residence is being modernized and expanded by 28 places (around 4.1 million euros). In addition, a hall of residence in Zittau is being modernized with 59 places (around 550,000 euros)
The money comes from the "Young Housing" programme, around 77 percent of which is financed by federal funds and around 23 percent by state funds. The funding will be handed over on Wednesday.
