Nothing is moving forward - because of roadworks or an accident. This situation occurs regularly on the freeways. The ADAC has now published the figures for 2024.

There were significantly more traffic jams on Saxony's freeways last year than in the previous year: 18,064 traffic jams were reported in 2024, compared to 14,645 in 2023, according to ADAC Saxony. That was an increase of almost a quarter.

The A4 remains the main congestion hotspot - with 9,142 congestion reports. That is over 2,000 more than in the previous year. There was also often no progress on the A17: 3,329 traffic jams were reported, more than twice as many as in the previous year. There was construction work on both the A4 and the A17.

Travelers needed to be particularly patient in 2024 on the freeway sections before the Ludwigsdorf (A4) and Breitenau-Schönwald (A17) border crossings. The longest waiting times were recorded there: a total of 1,050 hours on the A17 from the Bad Gottleuba junction and 2,801 hours on the A4 from the Görlitz junction.

On March 28, twelve consecutive traffic jams on the A4 between Chemnitz and Görlitz caused the longest traffic jam in the state in 2024. Between the Hainichen junction and the Burkau junction, there was a maximum traffic jam of 40 kilometers from 10:00 a.m. to midnight.

All freeway traffic jams in Saxony added up to 13,027 hours last year. That was 690 hours more than in 2023.
