A truck trailer caught fire on the A17 near Bad Gottleuba-Berggießhübel on Monday evening. The freeway was briefly closed due to heavy smoke development.
The truck driver had left the Am Heidenholz parking lot when his co-driver noticed sparks flying from the trailer, a police spokesperson said on Tuesday morning. Shortly afterwards, the entire truck trailer was on fire. No one was injured. How the sparks came about is still unknown, the spokesperson added.
The fire in the area of the parking lot exit caused so much smoke that the A17 was closed in both directions for around half an hour. The lane in the direction of Prague remained closed for a further two and a half hours. Property damage of around 20,000 euros was caused.
