Demonstrations expected at A4 junctions - citizens' hotline active

In protest against the planned cuts to agricultural subsidies, demonstrations are expected today at all junctions of the Autobahn 4 between Hermsdorf and the border crossing to Poland. In addition, a rally is planned at the "An der Neiße" rest area as well as several events and parades in the surrounding area, the police announced on Monday morning.

According to the Görlitz police headquarters, there could be extensive delays for citizens. The traffic warning service is providing information about current obstructions. The police directorate has also set up a citizens' hotline.

In response to farmers' protests, the federal government announced on Thursday that it would withdraw some of the planned subsidy cuts. The traffic light coalition wants to abandon the abolition of the motor vehicle tax exemption for agriculture. The aim is to avoid a considerable bureaucratic burden for the companies concerned. The abolition of tax concessions for agricultural diesel is to be spread out and implemented in several stages over the coming years. However, the German Farmers' Association considers the measures to be inadequate. The cuts to agricultural diesel should also be taken off the table.
