The IG Metall trade union has warned Volkswagen against terminating agreements, for example on job security, for the Saxon sites as well. This is going in the completely wrong direction and cannot be done with the union, said IG Metall district manager Dirk Schulze. "We firmly reject any cutbacks to job security. All locations must remain - in Saxony as well as in the other regions."
The car manufacturer announced a more stringent cost-cutting program at the beginning of the month. Redundancies and plant closures are also on the cards. The job security that has been in place since 1994 has been terminated, as have the takeover guarantee for trainees and remuneration rules for temporary workers.
However, this does not yet apply to the Zwickau, Chemnitz and Dresden sites in Saxony. They belong to Volkswagen Sachsen GmbH, which has made its own agreements. According to the information provided, these have not yet been terminated. However, VW Saxony also intends to follow the AG's approach. To this end, the relevant contracts are being reviewed, according to the company.
