A new center for construction research is being built in the Lusatian mining district with 5.7 million euros in funding.

A new center for construction research is to be built in the Lusatian coalfield. The Lusatian Technology Centre GmbH is to receive 5.7 million euros in funding from the Coal Regions Investment Act to realize the project in Hoyerswerda, as announced by the Saxon State Ministry for Regional Development in Dresden on Monday.

The "Building and Living Centre" will research new, sustainable and bio-based materials as well as automated production technologies and serial renovation. The aim is to work with partners to develop qualitatively new construction innovations.

The funding will be used to refurbish a vacant industrial hall from the 1980s in the Zeißig industrial estate and make it usable. Among other things, a production hall with a control room, a laboratory, a seminar room and a materials warehouse are planned there.

"Smart and forward-looking ideas are needed for successful structural development - and the construction industry needs them too," said Minister of State Thomas Schmidt. The new research center will create a real-world laboratory for construction technology and thus an important innovation lighthouse.

The project is one of 22 projects in the field of research infrastructure in the Lusatian mining region that is being funded by the Coal Regions Investment Act.
