In the struggle over the future of the Volkswagen plants in Saxony, top members of the state government are meeting with Group CEO Oliver Blume. The confidential meeting is planned for Tuesday afternoon in Dresden, the state chancellery announced on request. The "Leipziger Volkszeitung" and "Sächsische Zeitung" had previously reported on this. According to the information, Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) and Economics Minister Dirk Panter (SPD) will take part in the meeting.
Volkswagen is struggling with sales problems. The company is therefore planning to cut 35,000 jobs across Germany. The sites in Saxony are also affected. Production at the Transparent Factory in Dresden is to be discontinued and production at the vehicle plant in Zwickau will be limited to two Audi models. Until now, ID models and the Cupra Born have also been manufactured there. The car factory was previously regarded as the lead plant for the transition to electric mobility.
