The winter opening in Oberwiesenthal will still have to do without skiing fun this weekend. The use of the snow cannons had to be interrupted again, said René Lötzsch, head of the Fichtelberg Schwebebahn, when asked. With the current temperatures, it simply doesn't make sense "to make technical snow come hell or high water".
The Fichtelberg is now preparing for the expected frosty nights at the weekend. If the current weather forecasts come true, skiing could then start in the course of the coming week, explained Lötzsch. The sky ladder is to be prepared first, but runs on the main slope are also being considered.
In the neighboring ski resort on Keilberg in the Czech Republic, the second slope is set to open on Saturday. This means that at least two cable cars will be in operation there and downhill runs over a length of three kilometers will be possible.
