The population in Saxony is ageing. This means that the number of people with visual problems is also increasing.

In Saxony, the number of people with a visual impairment will increase in the future. This is due to the ageing population and the fact that visual problems generally increase with age, the Ministry of Health announced on the occasion of "Vision Week". Almost 24,000 blind and visually impaired people live in Bavaria (as of December 31, 2021). The "Week of Sight" from 8 to 15 October is intended to raise awareness of the needs of people with impaired vision.
