People have been puzzling over the Rubik's Cube for generations. The addictive toy can now be found in countless variations in children's rooms. There are also professionals.

Magic cube fans from 28 countries will be competing in Leipzig this weekend at this year's Rubik's German Nationals. According to the German Cube Association, the 350 participants registered for the competitions make the cube challenge the biggest German speedcubing championship to date. To kick things off, Leipzig math teacher and co-organizer Lars Krögel completed a prepared mosaic picture made from 1,225 magic cubes with them.

The cubers will determine the respective champions in 17 categories until Sunday evening. This involves solving Rubik's cubes by hand, blindfolded or with as few moves as possible. The players come mainly from Germany, but also from 27 other countries - from Algeria, India and Japan to Mexico, Peru and the USA.
