Saxony's vacation regions are expecting a busy Easter weekend. Saxon Switzerland, the Zittau Mountains and the Ore Mountains have been very well booked so far, as a spokeswoman for Tourismus Marketing Gesellschaft Sachsen (TMGS) said on Maundy Thursday. However, there is still accommodation available everywhere, especially for single travelers or couples. "For families or groups, however, accommodation is getting tight." Bookings have been received mainly from the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Austria, as well as from Hamburg and Berlin/Brandenburg.
"The weather is crucial for last-minute bookings," said the TMGS spokesperson. And the forecast is promising. "Many Easter events, such as the Easter customs in Upper Lusatia, are popular destinations." But there are also attractive offers for hiking, cycling, mountain biking, museums and events, as well as the first open amusement parks. Easter is "a good start to the 2024 tourism year". The hiking areas in the Free State are popular, but guests also like to combine this with visits to exhibitions, concerts or theaters in smaller and larger cities in the surrounding area, and for Sorbian Lusatia, its Easter customs such as Easter riding are also an occasion for day visitors and short breaks - even from abroad.
For leisure and accommodation providers in Saxon Switzerland, the start of the season at Easter is often associated with the first record number of visitors, said the TMGS spokesperson. The Ore Mountains are also hoping for last-minute bookings at the start of the active season with hiking and cycling. The hotel industry and cultural institutions in the Dresden Elbland are also pleased with the advance bookings and are expecting many guests from Germany and abroad - who are also going on the Saxon Wine Trail. According to TMGS, some accommodation is already fully booked in Vogtland, where guests can hike along an Easter trail covering eleven villages - past decorated fountains, on special tours and with exhibitions and concerts.
