Christmas tree sales start in Saxony

Christmas tree sales start in Saxony on the first weekend of Advent. Even before the first of December, some impatient customers have already purchased the first trees, as Ulrich Haberland, owner of the Sächsische Christbaum Gesellschaft, explained.

He grows Nordmann firs and blue spruces on his farm in the district of North Saxony. Since around mid-November, Haberland has been harvesting the festive trees bit by bit, selling them to retailers and directly to customers on his farm and at stalls. He has increased the prices for his Christmas trees this year and, according to Haberland, customers pay "one euro more for each tree".

Robert and Ulrich Kleinstäuber from "Ee'n Baum aus Sachsen" are launching their Christmas tree sales on Friday (December 1) at numerous sales stands in the region, including in Dresden, Freiberg, Kamenz and Pirna. Customers can also cut their own trees at their two plantations in the Westerzgebirge and in Stolpen (district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge).

Sachsenforst is also offering more than 30 dates for buying Christmas trees over the next few weeks. Events where customers can cut the trees themselves are particularly popular, it said. The trees grow in the Sachsenforst on areas where regular forest development is not possible - for example under high-voltage power lines.

In addition to the popular Nordmann firs and blue spruces, nostalgic classics such as spruce and pine are also on offer. Around 25,000 Christmas trees are felled in the state forest every year. The Bärenfels forest district will kick things off on Saturday (December 2) with freshly felled firs and pines, while Christmas trees can be collected directly from the local forest in the Naunhofer Forest.
